Acer turcomanicum is restricted to the Kopetdag Mountains in Turkmenistan and Iran. It is a small tree, or rarely a shrub, growing in sandy-loamy or gritty-loamy soils in rocky gorges at 600-1,200 m asl. The leaves are grey-green, 3-lobed; the pendant five-stellate flowers are arranged in racemes; the fruit is a yellow samara. It flowers in April, and fruits in August-September.
