Asclepiadaceae (Milkweed) |
The Asclepiadaceae includes 214 genera and ca. 2,400 species of perennial herbs, vines, leafless succulents, shrubs, and few trees. Milkweeds are distributed on every continent of the world except Antarctica, but the majority of species occurs in the tropics and subtropics, especially in Africa and South America. Some authorities place the milkweeds in the Apocynaceae (Dogbane), as a subfamily Asclepiadoideae.
