Ajuga reptans is native to Europe, northern Africa, and southwestern Asia; introduced in North America. It grows in well-drained soils in deciduous woodlands, thickets, meadows, pastures, roadsides, etc. This species is a sprawling perennial herb with erect flowering stems 10-35 cm tall; the leaves are opposite, purplish-green, with serrated margins. The inflorescence is a raceme with whorls of two-lipped blue flowers. A. reptans blooms in late spring-early summer. The flowers are pollinated by long-tongued bees.
