False Pennyroyal (Trichostema brachiatum) Linnaeus, 1753

 

Synonyms: Isanthus brachiatus, Isanthus coeruleus, Isanthus multiflorus, Isanthus pubescens, Isanthus pumilus, Tetraclea viscida

 

 

Trichostema brachiatum ranges from southern Ontario and Quebec south to Texas and Georgia. It is found on gravel bars along streams, in rocky outcroppings, and alvars. This is an annual herb, with erect pubescent stem; up to 50 cm in height. The leaves are opposite and entire. The flowers are 4-5 mm long, with purple corolla. The fruit is a nutlet. False Pennyroyal flowers from July to October.
