Ram's-head Lady's-slipper (Cypripedium arietinum) R. Brown 1813 |
Synonyms: Arietinum americanum, Criosanthes parviflora, Criosanthes borealis |
Ram's-head Lady's-slipper is a rare orchid distributed patchily around the Great Lakes and in New England in North America, with an isolated population in Nova Scotia. Cypripedium arietinum occurs in a variety of habitats including coniferous forest, alvars, bogs, swamps, and wooded rocky slopes, up to 1,000 m. This lady's-slipper prefers soils with low acidity, but this is not a limiting factor. Ram's-head flowers in May and June.
