Verbenaceae (Verbena) |
The Verbenaceae includes 34 genera and 1,035 species of herbs, shrubs, trees and vines, mainly distributed in the tropics. Recently, many genera were moved from this family to Lamiaceae. Many members of the Verbenaceae have square stems. Leaves are usually opposite, sometimes whorled, simple or dissected. The flowers are zygomorphic and 2-lipped, aggregated in spikes, clusters, or racemes. Fruit are nutlets, drupes or capsules.
