Vitis aestivalis is native to eastern North America from southern Ontario and New England south to Texas and Florida. It is found in deciduous forests, woodlands, riparian habitats, thickets, hedgerows, and stabilized dunes; 0-2,000 m. It is a climbing vine, growing to over 10 m in length. Leaves are cordate to orbiculate, unlobed to 3-5-lobed. The flowers are arranged in panicles, 7-20 cm long. The fruit is a black, globose berry, 8-20 mm in diameter. Summer Grape flowers in April-June, and fruits in July-September.
