Crocodilians (Crocodilia)

Tab 3
Tab 2

The Crocodilians are large semiaquatic reptiles with thick skin covered in non-overlapping scales. They have long snouts, laterally compressed tails, and eyes, ears, and nostrils at the top of the head. The order includes three families, Alligatoridae (Alligators and Caimans), Crocodylidae (True Crocodiles), and Gavialidae (Gharials), and 25 species. The Crocodilians are found mainly in lowlands in the tropics and subtropics, but the two species reach the southeastern United States and eastern China, respectively.

Images of crocodiles and alligators are temporarily offline. Please check the list of Reptile Species in Our Collection for available species and feel free to contact us if you would like to see images of one or more species.
