Butterflies and Moths (order Lepidoptera) are probably the most recognizable insects in the world. Lepidoptera includes 126 families, 6,330 genera, and 180,000 named species; this is about 10% of the described species of all living organisms. Butterflies and skippers make up 6 to 11 percent of the Lepidoptera order, while moths constitute the hefty 89-94 percent.
